Now pay Rs 10, 000 tooth mark compensation in case of dog bite in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh: HC rules

Chandigarh News: Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana governments will now be obligated to provide compensation for dog bites. Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj, presiding over the Punjab and Haryana High Court, issued this order while resolving the petitions. The High Court has expressed concern regarding the rising occurrences of road accidents and dog bites caused by animals.
The high court order also gives detailed information about how much compensation has to be paid to the committees on the application received.
According to the court order, Rs 10,000 financial assistance will be given for per tooth mark. In case of flesh out incident, the compensation will be a minimum of Rs 20,000 for every 0.2 cm of wound.
Having disposed of 193 petitions, the high court directed Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to establish committees tasked with determining such compensations. These committees, chaired by the respective district deputy commissioners, must release the compensation within four months upon receipt and investigation of the applications.
Moreover, the state will primarily bear the responsibility for providing compensation and retains the right to recover it from defaulting agencies, equipment, or private entities. Justice S Bhardwaj noted the alarming surge in accidents, fatalities, and animal-inflicted dog bite cases being brought before the court.
