Opposition leaders claim iPhone hacking attempt in India, Apple react

New Delhi: MPs from several opposition parties, including Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, have claimed that their phones are being hacked.
These leaders have claimed that the Apple company itself has shared information about the hacking attempt by sending a message with them.
Sources said that similar messages were received by three people at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s office. At the same time, government sources have said that officials are aware of these messages.
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has also received an iPhone security threat alert.
He claimed that along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chadha, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Congress’ Pawan Khera were also warned of hacking attempts.
At the same time, Shiv Sena UBT spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi shared the message on her phone on social media.
According to Apple, these security threat alerts start coming in when its system detects “activity consistent with a state-sponsored attack.” The company officials said that the information probably started due to an “algorithm malfunction” and a detailed statement about the error will be issued soon.
