Punjab Police detain Dallewal before his death fast, protests erupt

Chandigarh: Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a prominent leader of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political), was detained by Punjab Police before beginning his death fast at the Khanauri border in Haryana-Punjab.

He was transported to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana under tight security. The hospital has been heavily guarded, with police sealing the area to prevent any public access.

Sources revealed that Dallewal has refused both food and hospital admission. Meanwhile, farmers have gathered at the Khanauri border to protest his detention. Farmer leaders are expected to announce their next course of action after 3 pm.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia criticized the government, describing Dallewal’s detention on Constitution Day as “a murder of the Constitution.”

He announced his support for the farmers at the Khanauri border and urged others to join the protest, calling the actions of the Central and Punjab governments a grave injustice.

Earlier, farmer leader Sarwan Pandher alleged that Dallewal was taken from the Khanauri border at around 2 am on Monday by officers, some of whom were reportedly speaking Hindi.

He demanded the Punjab government clarify its stance toward farmers, warning of serious consequences if Dallewal’s location was not disclosed.

The incident has intensified tensions, with calls for accountability from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration. Farmers and youth have also mobilized at the Shambhu border in solidarity.
