Rahul Gandhi gets new passport; Will go to America today

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has got a new normal passport today. The local court had given the requisite approval to issue the passport to the former Congress president two days ago.
Sources said the passport office had assured to issue the passport on Sunday and Gandhi received the passport later Sunday afternoon.
The former Congress president will leave for San Francisco on Monday evening, from where he will begin his three-city tour. It may be recalled that Rahul, as an MP, had a diplomatic passport, but had to submit it due to suspension of his membership of the Lok Sabha after he was sentenced to two years in jail in a criminal case for his remarks about modi surname. Rahul later applied for a simple passport.
Meanwhile, Rahul will begin his US tour by interacting with students at Stanford University in San Francisco. Apart from addressing a press conference on the occasion, Gandhi will also meet lawmakers and think tanks in Washington DC.
The Congressman is also scheduled to address Indian Americans, meet lawmakers and interact with think tanks, Wall Street executives and university students.
Gandhi will conclude his US visit with a massive public rally at the Javits Center in New York on June 4.
