Seven newborns die in east Delhi hospital fire

New Delhi: Seven newborns were killed and five others are undergoing treatment at another hospital in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar after a fire broke out at a children’s hospital on Saturday night, officials said. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and said the culprits will not be spared.

“The government stands with the families of the victims in this hour of grief and necessary arrangements have been made by the administration to ensure proper treatment to the injured,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has ordered an inquiry into the accident. He said that strict punishment will be given to those who use negligence.
