Sikhs in Maharashtra strongly oppose film Emergency, call for complete boycott
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Sikh Association (MSA) has received alarming information about the upcoming film “Emergency”, directed and starring Kangana Ranaut. Bal Malkit Singh of the association said that it has been learnt that the film contains deeply objectionable and defamatory content towards the Sikh community.
The inappropriate portrayal of Sikh characters in the film and distortion of historical events is not only wrong but also hurts the sentiments of the Sikhs.
He said that the Sikh community has always upheld the values of justice, equality and truth. Any attempt to distort our history or insult our culture is an insult not only to the Sikh nation but also to all the values that we respect.
The Maharashtra Sikh Association has strongly urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to immediately review the film “Emergency” and reconsider its release. We request the board not to certify films whose content distorts historical facts and promotes negative perceptions.
“We appeal to the Sikh community in Maharashtra and across the country as well as all supporters of justice and truth to boycott the film,” the leader said. We should not support any platform or medium that promotes content that is harmful against our religion.”
