Verdict on Sajjan Kumar’s conviction in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case reserved for February 25
New Delhi: A Delhi court has reserved its verdict for February 25 on the conviction of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The complainant, whose husband and son were killed by a mob allegedly instigated by Kumar, has sought the death penalty for the former MP.
Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, were killed on November 1, 1984. The case was initially registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station before being taken over by the Special Investigation Team.
The court framed charges against Kumar on December 16, 2021.
According to the prosecution, a large mob, armed with deadly weapons, looted and torched Sikh properties in retaliation for the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The mob allegedly attacked the complainant’s house, looted belongings, set the house on fire, and killed Jaswant Singh and his son.
