Women employees now can nominate their children for pension in place of husband: Centre

In case of a marriage dispute, female employees will now have the option to nominate their children for family pension instead of their husbands, announced the government today. Rule 50 of the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021 permits the disbursement of family pension following the demise of a government servant or retired government servant. Initially, this pension was directed to the spouse of the deceased individual.
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has recently revised the rules to allow a female employee to designate her child/children for the family pension, bypassing the husband. The Secretary of the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare stated, ‘This amendment aims to extend the family pension of a female government employee to her eligible child instead of her husband in cases involving divorce petitions, filings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, or those registered under the Indian Penal Code.
