AAP-Congress alliance announced in Chandigarh MC: AAP to field candidate for mayoral post
Chandigarh: Chandigarh is currently experiencing significant political turmoil in anticipation of the mayoral election scheduled for January 18. On Monday, an alliance was formed between the Congress and AAP in the Municipal Corporation.
Former Union Minister Pawan Bansal, representing the Congress, made the announcement, specifying that AAP would field its candidate for the mayoral post, while the positions of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor would be occupied by Congress members. Both parties have committed to supporting each other. As of now, there has been no discussion about the Lok Sabha elections; that remains a future consideration, with decisions to be made by the party high command.
Following the Congress-AAP alliance, the combined councillors have secured 20 votes, potentially enabling them to win all three positions. Simultaneously, concerns about the ‘horse trading’ of councillors have prompted precautionary measures. The Aam Aadmi Party has relocated its councillors to a resort in Ropar, Punjab, while the Congress has taken its councillors to Shimla.
Meanwhile, BJP councillors have been accommodated in the rest house in Panchkula, where Haryana CM Manohar Lal may engage in discussions with them.
