AAP workers clash with police over mayoral election row in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party’s councilors started a fast outside the municipal office on Sunday and the police tried to remove the party leaders and workers today.
During this, the police clashed sharply with the workers and leaders. During the scuffle, Chandigarh co-incharge SS Ahluwalia’s turban came off and he fell on the ground.
As the protest escalated, the Chandigarh Police detained 15 to 20 activists. The police have taken them to Sector 39 police station in Chandigarh.
At the same time, the AAP councillors have reached the Supreme Court regarding this matter. The Supreme Court has agreed to consider the petition of the councillors for urgent hearing. Now the Supreme Court has fixed the date of February 5 for hearing. The case will be heard by a triple bench in the Supreme Court tomorrow.
Even before this, AAP has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi was representing mayoral candidate Kuldeep Kumar before a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
