HC takes cognizance of woman paraded semi-naked in Tarn Taran, seeks report from police by April 30

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken cognizance of the case involving a woman being paraded naked in a market in Tarn Taran, and a video that subsequently went viral.

The High Court has described this incident as highly disturbing and has emphasized the need for strict action to be taken. The police have been instructed to submit a status report on the case by April 30th.

In Tarn Taran, a woman was partially disrobed by her family after her daughter’s marriage, and thereafter, she was repeatedly filmed while running in the streets. When the 55-year-old woman attempted to cover herself, the accused would forcefully remove her clothing, capturing these acts on video and circulating them online.

Following the viral spread of the video, the Valtoha police station registered a case against three suspects and subsequently apprehended them. The case has taken on significant political dimensions.
