Harpal Singh Cheema Says Punjab Govt Will Act Against Punjab Congress President & MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring Over Casteist Remarks
Chandigarh News (Harpreet Singh): Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while speaking about the latest orders issued by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) against Punjab Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, said that no one is above the law, no matter how big or influential someone is, law is same for everyone.
Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that during the Tarn Taran by-election, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring had made “highly objectionable, casteist and derogatory remarks” against former Home Minister, late Buta Singh, referring to his skin colour and caste. “The matter had been pending for a long time, but the National Commission for Scheduled Castes had now taken a strict stand and issued orders against Amarinder Singh Raja Warring,” he added.
The senior AAP leader said, “The Punjab Government will fully and sincerely comply with the orders of the Commission. Whatever legal action is warranted under the law against Amarinder Singh Raja Warring will be taken without any pressure. If his arrest is required for the investigation and due process, the Punjab Police will not hesitate to arrest him.”
He continued, “No person who uses colourist or casteist words in society and insults the Dalit community will be spared. There is no place in Punjab for people with such a degraded mentality.”
Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated, “Punjab is the sacred land of our great Gurus and saints and has always given the message of equality, brotherhood and humanity. Congress leaders are trying to sow the seeds of hatred and poison here, which the people of Punjab and our government will never accept. The law will take its own course, and the person accused of insulting the Dalit community will have to face punishment.”
