Another unit of government thermal plant in Ropar shuts down, power generation affected

Punjab E News: The power crisis in Punjab seems to be deepening again. Another unit 210W of the government sector thermal plant in Ropar has been shut down. Only one unit of the government thermal plant in Ropar is running while three are closed.

Out of 15 units of five thermal plants in Punjab, seven units are closed and power generation has come to a standstill.
Thus, production of 2860 MW, more than half of the total 5680 MW installed capacity, came to a standstill. At present, there is a demand of 8800 MW of power in Punjab.
According to sources, Powercom purchased 27.93 million units of power at an average cost of Rs 6.57 per unit at a cost of Rs 18.34 crore on Tuesday. So far this month, Powercom has purchased 316.65 million units of power at a cost of Rs 180.10 crore, which is an average price of Rs 5.69 per unit.
It may be recalled that six units of thermal plants in Punjab had shut down till yesterday. According to the information, 2 units (660 MW each) of Talwandi Sabo were closed due to a technical snag. Apart from this, one unit of Rajpura Thermal Plant was closed due to overhauling of 700 MW.
