Punjab government withdraws decision; Manisha Gulati to continue as chairperson of Women’s Commission

Punjab E News: The Punjab government today withdrew its decision after chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women Manisha Gulati challenged in the High Court the order removing her from the post. The Punjab government has withdrawn its decision to remove Manisha Gulati from the post of chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women, the Punjab Government told the High Court today.

According to the information, Manisha Gulati will join her duty again from tomorrow. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab government on the petition of Manisha Gulati and directed it to file a reply.
Manisha Gulati, while filing the petition told the high court that she was appointed as chairperson of the Punjab Women’s Commission in March 2018 during the tenure of the previous Congress government of Captain Amarinder Singh and her tenure was later extended until 18 March 2024.
She joined the BJP on February 20, 2022. However, she remained in her position.
The petitioner said that her appointment was done as per the laid down procedure and accordingly she was given this extension. The petitioner said that on January 31 last month, the Punjab government had cancelled her extension order saying that she was granted extension in violation of the Act.
