Anti-drone technology to be installed at Indo-Pak border within a year: Governor Purohit

Chandigarh: The Government of India will soon set up anti-drone technology along the Indo-Pak border to stop the smuggling of arms and narcotics into India through drones by Pakistani smugglers. This was disclosed by Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. The Governor, DGP Gaurav Yadav and other officials held a meeting with the members of village defence committees of the border areas of Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts.

The governor visited Gurdaspur district yesterday.

Talking to the media after a meeting at the Guru Nanak Dev University here, the Governor said that anti-drone technology would be installed along the Indo-Pak border within a year to check drone smuggling from the Pakistani side, which would completely stop the smuggling of drugs and weapons through drones from Pakistan.

He said that defence committees have been formed at the village level in every district to eradicate drugs across the state. He said cash prizes would be given to the committees working in six districts along the border.

He said that instructions have also been given to constitute a special panel of lawyers to deal with court cases related to drugs and to confiscate the properties of the accused immediately after their sentencing.

He also directed the Village Defence Committees to issue arms licences as per the requirement and give them due respect in the police and civil administration.
