Centre seeks action taken report from Punjab government over PM Modi’s security lapse

Chandigarh: The Centre has sought an action taken report from the Punjab government on the security lapses during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state on January 5, 2022.

The Central Government has sought an action taken report from the Punjab government for not taking any action against the Punjab officials so far on the basis of the report of the Supreme Court committee in this matter.
Significantly, the committee formed by the Supreme Court to investigate this matter had found flaws in the police and administrative officers of Punjab. The Supreme Court’s inquiry committee had held the Ferozepur SSP responsible for the case. The committee had said that despite adequate force present at the spot, the Ferozepur SSP failed to complete his duty.
Based on the report of the committee headed by Justice Indu Malhotra, the Supreme Court had said that the Prime Minister’s schedule was fixed, despite this, the SSP was informed two hours ago that the Prime Minister’s convoy had to pass through that route.
On the basis of this report, the Central Government has sought a report from the Punjab Government regarding the action taken by the Punjab Government against the guilty officers so far.
The Union Home Secretary also spoke to the Punjab Chief Secretary on the matter and asked him to file a charge sheet against all the officials responsible for the prime minister’s security lapse.
