Couple dies of suffocation in Ludhiana, had lit bonfire to beat cold

Chandigarh: A couple was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in Focal Point Phase-5 in Ludhiana late last night. Burnt coals were found in a vessel in their room, suggesting that the husband and wife may have succumbed to suffocation. When the man failed to show up at the factory, his co-workers attempted to contact him. With no response to the calls, the factory staff, accompanied by the police and the house owner, broke into his room after 20 hours late at night, as there was a latch from inside.

Upon entering the room, they were shocked to find the husband’s lifeless body on the bed and the wife on the ground, both without any quilts covering them. The deceased have been identified as Karna (40) and Kamla (38), a married couple of seven years with no children, originally from Nepal. The bodies were taken into possession by the employees of the Dhandari police outpost, under the Focal Point police station, and transferred to the civil hospital for postmortem.
