DC orders drive against illegal halting of vehicles to ease traffic

Jalandhar News: Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vishesh Sarangal on Tuesday directed the transport department and traffic wing of commissionerate police to start a drive against the unauthorized halting of buses and autos at various spots in the city.

       Presiding over a Road Safety committee meeting in the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the transport department and traffic police need to take strict action against unscheduled halting of buses and autos at undesignated points including entry gates of bus stands, under bus stand flyover (near War Memorial), PAP Chowk, Rama Mandi Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and other points.

       He said that the illegal stoppages of buses and autos on the national highway and city roads have been posing risks to commuters’ lives. He said that bus and auto drivers often stop to pick up and drop passengers thus putting their lives in danger.

      Further, they also asked to submit the report of their drive to the office of the deputy commissioner.

        Sarangal also asked National Highways Authority of India to remove three black spots in the Goraya and Bhogpur areas besides installing barbed-wire on highways’ dividers falling in Kartarpur, Bhogpur, and Phillaur to ensure the safety of the commuters.

        He also asked traffic police to explore the feasibility of one-way traffic in Garha Chowk as proposed by roadway authorities.

       Deputy commissioner also asked the officers to keep a check on speeding and overloading vehicles to prevent any mishaps.

       The Deputy Commissioner said that the civil and police administration was firmly committed to ensuring the safety and security of people besides facilitating for smooth commuting on the roads.
