Decision on alliance with SAD this week, says Amit Shah

New Delhi: The alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab will become clear this week.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at a summit in Delhi on Wednesday that discussions are ongoing between the two parties, and a decision regarding this matter will be made within a day or two. He is gearing up to unite all the NDA parties for the Lok Sabha elections.

With the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab scheduled for the final phase of voting, discussions for an alliance between the BJP and SAD have resumed.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, SAD and the BJP jointly contested and secured four seats.

Due to the farmers’ protest, SAD had distanced itself from the BJP and contested the assembly elections separately in 2022.

In the previous assembly elections, both parties suffered losses by contesting independently. While SAD was limited to just three seats, the BJP could only secure two seats.
