Delhi Power Tussle: Centre brings ordinance on transfers, AAP slams BJP-led Centre government
New Delhi: The central government has approached the Supreme Court to review the decision of the Constitution Bench of May 11. The Supreme Court had said that the Delhi government has legislative and executive power over services in the national capital.
Following this, Aam Aadmi Party launched scratching attack on the BJP-led Union government.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in a tweet wrote, “If the Indian Constitution had a provision for punishment for the killers of democracy, the entire BJP could have been sentenced to death.”
In another tweet, he wrote, “Let 30-31 governors and one prime minister run the country.. What is the use of spending billions of billions of dollars on getting votes???”
AAP MP Raghav Chadha wrote, “What next?!
A constitutional amendment that any state that votes into power a non-BJP government will be stripped of its legislature and transformed into a centrally administered territory?”
What is the controversy
The Centre yesterday promulgated an ordinance to set up the National Capital Civil Services Authority. Through this ordinance, the Center has given the powers of transfer and posting to the Lieutenant Governor.
According to this ordinance, the transfer and appointment of officers in the capital will be through the National Capital Civil Services Authority (NCCSA).
The NCCSA will be headed by the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary will be its members, it said.
