Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan Season-2: District level competitions of 25 sports will start from September 26

Around 2 lakh players participated in block level competitions of 8 Sports

Chandigarh: Started to create sports culture in Punjab and make it the leading state of the country in sports, Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan seeing more enthusiasm than the last year. The games were started under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and this year many new players are participating in season 2.

      Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the first phase of the games was successfully completed at the block level in eight Sports in which nearly two lakh players participated.

     Now the district level competitions are going to start on September 26 for which all the arrangements are complete. Last year total of 3 lakh players participated in the games from the Block to the State level and this time this number will increase. Accepting the demand of the players, the department has allowed players to participate reporting directly on the ground who could not register online for any reason.

      Meet Hayer further said that eight age groups U-14, U-17, U-21, 21-30 years, 31-40 years, 41-55 years, 56-65 years and more than 65 years are organized by the sports department in a total of 35 Sports.

       Competitions in eight Sports were held at the block level from August 31 to September 10 in 157 blocks across the state in Athletics, Football, Volleyball (smashing and shooting), Kabaddi (national style and circle style), Kho Kho and Tug of War have been conducted.

       The sports minister said that now the district level competitions will be held from September 26 to October 5. The 25 sports competitions will be held at the district level, out of which only the winners of the eight games held at the block level will participate, while the rest of the sports competitions will be held directly at the district level. These sports include Hockey, Handball, Boxing, Basketball, Wrestling, Judo, Powerlifting, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Shooting, Kickboxing, Swimming, Netball, Gatka, Chess, Table Tennis, Weightlifting and Softball.

      Meet Hayer further said that only the district winners of the above 25 sports events will participate in the state level competitions to be held in October, while 10 sports event winners will directly play in state level competitions. These 10 sports are, Archery, Kayaking and Canoeing, Gymnastics, Roller Skating, Rowing, Equestrian, Cycling, Wushu, Rugby and Fencing. Prizes of Rs 10,000, 7000 and 5000 will be given to the first, second and third place winners at the state level respectively. Total prize money of Rs. 7 Crore will be given to the winners.
