MLA Raman Arora sent to five-day vigilance remand in corruption case

Jalandhar: Aam Aadmi Party’s Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora was produced before the district sessions court on Friday afternoon by the Vigilance Bureau, which had arrested him earlier in the day on corruption charges.
The court granted a five-day remand to the vigilance team, which had sought a 10-day custody. Advocate Naveen Chadha shared the information with reporters after the hearing.
MLA Arora was arrested around 8:30 am from outside a temple near his residence in Ashok Nagar, Jalandhar. He was then taken home by the vigilance team, where his wife was also present.
During the operation, officials examined his property documents and bank account transactions. Arora’s lawyer arrived at the house around 10:30 am but was not permitted to enter by the vigilance officials.
According to officials, Arora allegedly colluded with Sukhdev Vashisht, an Assistant Town Planner (ATP) with the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, who has already been arrested.
The two are accused of sending false construction-related notices to residents and later accepting large sums of money in exchange for halting legal action and clearing the cases.
Further investigation is underway.
