MP Amritpal Singh’s father meets Gurdwara Election Commission chief over SGPC voter registration
Chandigarh: Tarsem Singh, father of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, met Justice Surinder Singh Saroon, Chief Commissioner of the Gurdwara Election Commission, in Chandigarh on Monday to discuss voter registration for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections.
Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
A delegation from Akali Dal (Waris Punjab), led by Tarsem Singh and senior leader Bhai Sarwan Singh Agwan, raised concerns over the slow pace of voter registration at the district level.
They alleged that youth were being prevented from registering as voters and called for a special campaign by the Punjab government to address the issue.
The delegation also urged the Sikh community to select religiously aware youth as candidates and build consensus for the upcoming SGPC elections.
