Passenger held with narcotics worth Rs 8.17 crore at Amritsar airport

Amritsar: Customs officials at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar have arrested a passenger with narcotics valued at Rs 8.17 crore. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

The accused, identified as Mandeep Singh, had returned to India from Malaysia on February 26. During baggage screening, officials recovered 8.17 kg of contraband, suspected to be ganja, from his luggage.

In a separate operation, customs officials seized 400 grams of gold from a passenger arriving from Singapore. The recovered gold chain and bangles are valued at approximately Rs 35.60 lakh.

Authorities have intensified surveillance at the airport to curb smuggling activities. Strict action against those involved in unlawful activities will continue, officials said.
