Punjab Chief Secretary VK Janjua to retire today

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua is retiring today. A chief secretary is retiring from his post after a long time after Rakesh Kumar Singh retired in 2015.
      IAS officer Anurag Verma will take over as the new Chief Secretary of Punjab from July 1. Janjua had sought an extension from the central government for his tenure but it was rejected.
      Janjua is likely to be made chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). At present, Anurag Verma is posted as Additional Chief Secretary of Home Affairs and Justice. He has additional charge of legal and legislative affairs, industry and commerce, information technology and investment promotion. He will take charge on July 1.
     On July 5, 2022, VK Janjua was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Punjab. His appointment came after Anirudh Tiwari was removed. Prior to this, Vk Janjua was posted as Jail and Additional Special Chief Secretary Election.
     Apart from Anurag Verma, 1992 batch IAS officer KAP Sinha, 1990 batch IAS officers VK Singh, Anirudh Tiwari, Vini Mahajan, Anjali Bhawra and Ravneet Kaur were in the race for the post of Punjab Chief Secretary.
