Punjab Election Commission sets expenditure limit for candidates to spend Rs 95 lakh in Lok Sabha polls
Chandigarh: In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, candidates will now be permitted to spend up to 95 lakhs, as the Election Commission has raised the election expenditure limit from Rs 70 lakhs.
The Chief Electoral Officer of each state has released a list detailing the expenditures of candidates and political parties during the election period.
Additionally, fixed rates have been established for various items ranging from flags to caps used in the election process. As soon as the Election Code of Conduct is enforced, the Commission will monitor candidates’ expenditures, appointing committees and officers for this purpose.
State Chief Electoral Officer C Siban has assembled a committee comprising officials from various districts to oversee candidates’ expenses.
Approximately 200 items used in the election have had their rates recommended for fixing by this committee.
Following the officials’ report, the rates for all items have been determined, with adjustments made to account for inflation compared to the previous election.
