Punjab government to open six libraries in every assembly constituency

Jalandhar: The Punjab government has decided to open six libraries in each assembly constituency of the state. The decision has been taken on the lines of the ‘Sangrur model’ and the government has ordered to identify villages/cities for opening libraries.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had inaugurated some libraries in Sangrur district and directed to take the model to the entire Punjab. The Chief Minister’s Office has sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioners, apprising them of the estimated cost and salary incurred on the library in Sangrur district.
If the proposal is finalised, 702 libraries will be opened in the state. The library, including development works, was discussed by the Chief Minister during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners in the past. The suggestion to set up libraries in Punjab has been suggested by the present Deputy Commissioner of Mansa Paramvir Singh and Sangrur DC Jatinder Jorwal as these officers have opened libraries in many districts during their service.
