Chandigarh: NSS Volunteer from Punjab Shriya Maini has been selected for the NSS Award (Volunteer Category) by Union Youth Affairs and Sports for the year 2021-22 for her outstanding work and enthusiastic spirit for serving the nation as an NSS Volunteer.

      Sports and Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer congratulated her on the selection for this prestigious award, He said that it is a matter of pride for Punjab. Shriya Maini is a beacon of light for the youth of Punjab as she has rendered valuable services in the field of social service as an NSS volunteer.

      A student of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus, Jalandhar, Shriya had participated in spreading awareness regarding Covid 19 and in various vaccination camps in the district of Jalandhar. Her major work includes Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, environmental conservation, frequent distribution of warm clothes to needy people, stationery items among unprivileged children and dry food items at shelter homes.

        Also Adopted villages have been enlightened regarding various schemes like Beti bachao beti padao, Ujjwala Yojna, and Pradhan MantriBima Yojna. She also generated awareness regarding stubble burning, the hazards of plastic and the importance of millet for the environment, farmers & consumers.

        ​President of India will confer NSS Award (Volunteer Category) to Shriya Maini with a Cash Prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- with a certificate and a Silver Medal at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on 29th September.
