Punjab observes complete bandh as farmers push for legal MSP guarantee
Chandigarh: Punjab came to a standstill today as farmers’ organisations, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, called for a statewide bandh to demand a legal guarantee for the procurement of all crops at minimum support prices (MSP) and other issues concerning farmers and labourers.
Beginning at 7 am, leaders of farmer unions staged blockades at over 140 locations, halting road and rail traffic across the state. However, emergency services were allowed to operate uninterrupted.
Reports from various parts of Punjab indicate that the bandh has been successful, with widespread societal support. Numerous groups, including traders, religious organisations, employees, students, transporters, and other associations, extended solidarity with the farmers’ cause, ensuring the bandh’s “complete” impact.
The farmer organisations have reiterated their commitment to press for their demands, stating that the support from diverse sections of society highlights the gravity of the agrarian issues.
