Punjab police register case against agent in US deportation case

Chandigarh: Following the deportation of 104 Indians from the US, including 31 from Punjab, authorities in the state have begun legal action based on complaints from the deportees.

The first case has been registered at Rajasansi police station in Amritsar district against agent Satnam Singh, son of Tarsem Singh, a resident of Kotli Khehra village.

The case was filed based on a complaint by Diler Singh, a resident of Salempur, who was among those deported. Punjab Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal met Singh on Monday.

According to Singh, his journey to the US began on August 15, 2024, when an agent promised him safe passage. He was first taken to Dubai and then to Brazil, where he was detained for two months.

The agents initially assured him of a visa but later insisted on using the “Dunki Route”—an illegal migration path. He was then forced to cross the dense jungles of Panama, known as the lower Dunki route, before reaching the US.
