Punjab police SP, DSP suffer burns while disposing of confiscated drugs

Amritsar: Two police officers sustained severe burns while disposing of narcotics at the Khanna Paper Mill in Amritsar on Thursday.

SP Tarun Ratan suffered 40% burns, while DSP Sukh Amritpal Singh sustained 25% burns. Both officers are undergoing treatment at Amandeep Hospital, where their condition remains critical.

According to officials, the officers, along with their teams, had transported a consignment of seized narcotics from Khanna for incineration.

The narcotics were being destroyed using boilers and furnaces, a practice employed across Punjab districts.

During the process, an accident occurred, leaving the two officers trapped in the fire.

Senior officials from Amritsar and Khanna have since rushed to the hospital to monitor the situation. Further details regarding the cause of the incident are being investigated.
