SC/ST Act sections added to case after Punjab State SC Commission’s intervention
Punjab News: Following the intervention of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi, the Amritsar Police have incorporated sections of the SC/ST Act in a case involving the assault and casteist abuse of a CRPF constable by Punjab Police personnel.
According to a spokesperson of the Commission, the action was taken in response to a written complaint submitted by Parminder Kaur wife of Bhushan Kumar, resident of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar. In her complaint, she alleged that her husband, a CRPF constable, was unjustifiably beaten by ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, who also hurled casteist insults at him. Despite filing a complaint at the police station, authorities had registered a cross-case against Bhushan Kumar himself.
The spokesperson informed that while police had initially registered a case against ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, they had omitted sections of the SC/ST Act. Upon the Commission’s directives to reinvestigate the matter and include these vital sections, the Amritsar Police complied today and have assured the Commission that the case registered against Bhushan Kumar will be withdrawn soon.
