SGPC general body begins voting

SGPC members have gathered at Teja Singh Samundari Hall for the election of president, office bearers and internal committee members during the annual general meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).  The general session of the SGPC has begun. Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh prayed for the beginning and Giani Jagtar Singh, head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, read the hukamnama.

Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh is also present. At the start of the session, tributes were paid to the departed souls. SGPC president Advocate Dhami read out the condolence resolutions. 

The voting process has been started by the members and the names of the members are being taken one by one. The entry of the press into Teja Singh Samundari Hall has been banned.

The election process has began at 1 pm today at Teja Singh Samundari Hall in Amritsar and voting will be held only for the post of president. After that, senior vice-president, vice-president, general secretary and 11 members of the internal committee will also be elected. The name of the president of the Sikh body will be decided through ballot paper. Advocates Harjinder Singh Dhami and Bibi Jagir Kaur are making claims of their respective victories.
