SGPC president Dhami apologises for abusive remarks towards women

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, has issued an apology for using abusive language against former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur and the wider women’s community.

In a letter addressed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Dhami acknowledged his “inadvertent mistake” and expressed regret for the objectionable words he used during a past phone conversation.

Dhami admitted the remarks were made “knowingly and unknowingly” and were inappropriate, given his position in the Panthic leadership.

“I humbly apologise to Bibi Jagir Kaur and the entire female community for the words I used. Whatever directive the Jathedar gives in this matter, I will accept it with humility,” Dhami wrote in his letter, which was handed to Jaspal Singh, manager of the Akal Takht secretariat.

Dhami also released a video statement, explaining that during an emotional exchange about Bibi Jagir Kaur, he had unintentionally used abusive language. He reiterated his respect for Bibi Jagir Kaur and all women, seeking forgiveness for his actions.

The matter now awaits a response from the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht.
