SGPC to send team of lawyers to Dibrugarh; Will provide legal aid to Sikhs booked under NSA

Chandigarh: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami said a team of lawyers will soon visit Dibrugarh jail in Assam to meet the Sikhs arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).

Dhami said all help would be provided to those arrested during the police crackdown on ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh.
Police have arrested Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh and four accomplices Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Prime Minister Bajeke under the NSA and sent them to Dibrugarh jail.
Dhami, who was here to launch the “Amrit Chako Singh Sajo” campaign, alleged that by deploying paramilitary forces in Punjab, the state government as well as the Centre have created an “atmosphere of terrorism”.
He said the security forces deployed around several gurdwaras had created an atmosphere of panic among the devotees and said this was being done to gain mileage during the 2024 elections.
