Jalandhar News: Former Punjab MLA Simarjit Singh Bains today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He joined the party in Jalandhar. There were speculations that they will contest the upcoming Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections and Lok Sabha elections 2024 in alliance with the BJP.

Simarjit Singh Bains, who started his political career with Simranjit Singh Mann, had joined the Akali Dal under the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal. There were many allegations against him in SAD. A case was also registered against Bains for assaulting the tehsildar by entering the office. He had quit the party after being denied an election ticket by the Akali Dal.
Later, Simranjit Singh Bains and his brother Balwinder Singh Bains contested Independent and won. Bains formed the Lok Insaaf Party in the 2017 assembly elections and also formed an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, but they could save only two of his seats. This time he contested alone in the 2022 election, but could not withstand the wave of broom and lost all the seats.
