Sports Minister honours National Record Holder athlete Manju Rani
Chandigarh: The Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today felicitated the athlete Manju Rani who created new National record in 35 Km Walking event at the 10th National Walking Championship clocking the timing of 2.57.54.
Honouring the athlete at his office here at the Punjab Civil Secretariat, the Minister said that it is a matter of pride that this promising athlete has brought laurels to the State at the National level. With this achievement, Manju Rani who hails from village Khaira Khurd in Mansa, has qualified for the Asian Games due this year.
The Sports Minister said that the State Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is continuously striving to ensure sports friendly environment and is in the process of preparing a new sports policy so as to make sure that maximum players from Punjab make the cut for the Paris Olympics-2024. He also gave best wishes to the athlete to qualify for the Olympics and assured that the Punjab Government would render every possible help to her.
Among others present on the occasion included MLA Sardulgarh Gurpreet Singh Banawali, MLA Budhlada Principal Budh Ram, Father of athlete- Jagdish Ram and Coach Veerpal Kaur.
