Winter effect: 85% domestic households received zero electricity bill

Punjab E News: With the onset of the winter season in Punjab, the figure of ‘zero bills’ of domestic electricity has started to peak. It is only natural for domestic consumers to get the benefit of winter season while on the other hand, the government’s subsidy bill has started to weigh heavily. According to the information, In July, 62.36 per cent people got zero bill, 67.53 per cent in August and 70.74 per cent in September received zero electricity bills.

As the weather has started to cool down, the number of zero bills has also started increasing. In October, 76.07 per cent of consumers received zero electricity bills. With the onset of winter, 84.58 per cent of domestic consumers have received zero bills till November 15. 
The Punjab government had implemented the decision to waive off 600 units of electricity from July 1.
According to experts, as the cold increases further, the figure of consumers taking advantage of zero bills will increase further.
During the Congress regime, 200 units of electricity per month was waived off to SC/BC/BPL families.
In August of 2021-22, 26.72 per cent of domestic consumers got the benefit of subsidy, while in August this year, 96.75 per cent consumers received electricity subsidy.
