Former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh calls leadership change a ‘dark day’ for Panthic institutions

Amritsar: Reacting to the change in Jathedars, former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh described the move as a dark day for Panthic institutions. He claimed that his removal was linked to the hukamnama issued on December 2.

“The main reason behind my character assassination was the December 2 hukamnama,” he said.

Referring to Sikh history, he added, “When Guru Gobind Singh received news of the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas, he declared that the roots of Mughal rule had been broken. Today, the roots of those misusing institutions have been broken.”

However, Shiromani Akali Dal’s Delhi president Paramjit Singh Sarna welcomed the appointment of new Jathedars. He said that for months, Giani Harpreet Singh and his associates had been influencing Sikh traditions.

“I urge the newly appointed Singh Sahibans to uphold Panthic traditions and provide principled guidance to the Sikh community while promoting religious teachings,” Sarna said.
