New Jersey: US President Donald Trump remained on the presentation stage during Spain’s FIFA World Cup trophy celebrations, creating an unusual moment after the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino jointly presented the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri, who was also named the tournament’s best player.
After the presentation, Spain’s players gathered for the traditional trophy lift. While dignitaries typically leave the stage before the celebrations begin, Trump stayed alongside the players as they prepared to celebrate.
Television footage appeared to show Infantino signalling for the US president to step aside. However, Trump remained on the stage and was seen applauding the players before briefly performing one of his trademark dance moves.
