New Delhi: The opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed repeated disruptions, forcing both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to adjourn proceedings six times amid protests by opposition parties.
Opposition MPs demanded discussions on the alleged NEET paper leak and the reported theft of offerings at the Ram Temple. Some members entered the House carrying posters and banners, leading to noisy scenes and repeated adjournments.
In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. He alleged that young protesters had gathered to raise their concerns but claimed their voices were being suppressed and that police had resorted to a baton charge during the demonstration.
Amid the disruptions, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced a Bill in the Lok Sabha proposing an increase in the sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court.
Before Parliament convened, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media outside Parliament for around 15 minutes. He expressed hope that the Monsoon Session would be productive and urged members to engage in constructive, reasoned debates.
“Whether it is the monsoon or the Monsoon Session, if both are proactive, the outcome can be highly productive,” the Prime Minister said, appealing to lawmakers to ensure meaningful discussions in Parliament.
