Security heightened in Amritsar after bomb threat email ahead of Independence Day

Amritsar: Security agencies have been put on high alert in Amritsar after three police stations under the Commissionerate received a threatening email warning of grenade attacks on police stations and IED blasts on railway tracks ahead of Independence Day.

According to officials, the email was sent to the official email IDs of Airport Police Station, D Division Police Station and E Division Police Station.

The sender allegedly claimed links with an extremist organisation and threatened to target police stations and railway infrastructure in Punjab before August 15.

The message specifically mentioned Amritsar, Ludhiana and Bathinda, besides Ambala, and warned of explosive attacks on railway tracks.

Following the threat, security agencies launched an investigation to trace the source of the email. Police have also intensified security measures and stepped up surveillance at sensitive locations, including police establishments and railway infrastructure, as part of the Independence Day security arrangements.
