Gurmeet Ram Rahim released on 21-day furlough from Sunaria jail

Rohtak: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year sentence in a rape case involving two female followers, was released on 21-day furlough from Rohtak’s Sunaria district jail on Tuesday morning.

The Dera chief left the jail premises at around 6:05 am in an SUV amid tight security. Police made extensive security arrangements around the jail ahead of his release.

According to the information available, Ram Rahim is expected to stay at the Dera’s headquarters in Sirsa during the furlough period.

17th temporary release since 2017 conviction

This is reportedly the 17th occasion on which Ram Rahim has been released from prison on furlough or temporary release since he was sentenced by a special CBI court in Panchkula in August 2017.

It is also his third release this year. He was earlier granted 40 days’ furlough in January and 30 days in May.

Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence after his conviction in the rape case involving two women followers.
