Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approved a more than 120% increase in the salaries of teachers working in Adarsh schools, a move that will benefit around 1,100 teachers across the state.
Following the revision, their monthly salary will increase from around ₹10,000 to more than ₹22,000.
Mann announced the decision during a meeting with a delegation of teachers. He said teachers had been serving for nearly two decades on comparatively low salaries despite their important role in shaping Punjab’s future.
“Teachers are the backbone of our education system,” CM Mann said, adding that the salary hike would address what he described as a long-standing injustice faced by the teachers.
Facilities on Kendriya Vidyalaya lines
Apart from the salary increase, the teachers will also receive facilities on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, aimed at improving their service conditions.
The Chief Minister said more than 15,000 students are currently studying in these CBSE-affiliated Adarsh schools.
Mann said the government was committed to protecting the interests of both teachers and students, adding that teachers who feel secure and respected are better placed to provide quality education to students.
