Chandigarh: Former Union minister of state and senior BJP leader Vijay Sampla has once again been summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Behbal Kalan firing case.
The SIT had asked Sampla to appear before the investigating team in Chandigarh on August 27. However, Sampla has expressed his inability to appear on that date, citing several pre-scheduled party meetings, and has requested another date for his appearance.
Police from Model Town police station reached Sampla’s residence on Tuesday morning to serve him the SIT notice.
Sampla alleges political harassment
Speaking to reporters, Sampla alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government was deliberately targeting and harassing BJP leaders.
He said he had no connection with the cases related to sacrilege or the Behbal Kalan firing and questioned the basis on which he had been summoned.
Sampla said he had previously sought copies of the documents on the basis of which the SIT had issued the summons, but claimed that the documents had not yet been provided to him.
He said he would be able to fully cooperate with the investigation after examining the relevant documents.
Sampla also reiterated that his pre-scheduled party programmes on August 27 would prevent him from appearing before the SIT on the date mentioned in the notice.
