ED seeks custody of middleman in former Punjab DIG Bhullar bribery case

Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to question Krishnu Sharda, an alleged middleman linked to former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, in connection with the bribery case being investigated by the agency.

Sharda was arrested along with Bhullar on October 16, 2025, while allegedly accepting ₹5 lakh from the complainant as part of a bribe demand.

The FIR in the case was registered on the complaint of Akash Batta. It alleged that Bhullar, who was then posted as DIG of the Ropar Range, had sought an illegal gratification through Sharda in return for favourable action in a case registered at Sarhind police station and to ensure that coercive action was not taken against the complainant’s business.

The ED’s Special Public Prosecutor has moved an application before the Special PMLA Court in Chandigarh, seeking production warrants for Sharda. He is currently lodged in judicial custody at Model Jail, Chandigarh.

The court has issued notice to Sharda through the Superintendent of Model Jail, Burail, Chandigarh.

The court has also directed that summons be issued for September 18, 2026, and instructed the jail authorities to produce Sharda physically before the court on the scheduled date.

The ED’s proposed questioning comes as the agency examines the alleged money trail and circumstances surrounding the bribery case.
