Ottawa: A copy of an alleged letter sent last year by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to Canada’s defence minister, armed forces and police has gone viral on social media, with the purported group claiming it has thousands of members and more firearms than the police.
The letter, reportedly addressed to the Abbotsford Police Department in 2025, allegedly identifies the group as the “Lawrence gang from India” and claims to have 5,000 members in Canada. It also threatens that the gang would “rule Canada” and that nobody could stop it.
The document contains several spelling and grammatical errors and lacks punctuation. Its authenticity has not been independently established.
The letter has surfaced two days after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) deported four Punjab-origin Indian nationals — Palwinder Singh, Jasmer Singh, Amitoz Bajwa and Sahibjot Singh — over alleged links to organised crime and extortion-related violence under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Another alleged close associate of Bishnoi, Karamveer Singh alias Karamveer Deo, was also deported from Canada following what authorities described as a carefully planned operation. The cases involved alleged criminal activities linked to the Bishnoi network.
According to local media reports, the purported letter was among documents submitted during an Immigration and Refugee Board hearing involving a Bishnoi associate who was deported in July.
A confidential CBSA intelligence report reportedly found that the Bishnoi network systematically exploited Canada’s international student visa and work permit programmes to recruit vulnerable young people for its international extortion and violent-crime operations.
The allegations regarding the letter and the network’s activities remain subject to verification by Canadian authorities.
