Chandigarh: The Punjab government has raised serious objections to the appointment of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the new Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Amid the controversy, the state government has called an emergency cabinet meeting at 4 pm on Sunday to discuss the appointment along with several other important issues concerning Punjab.
Cabinet minister Harpal Singh Cheema has strongly criticised the appointment, describing it as an injustice to Punjab. He said the state government does not accept the appointment under any circumstances.
The emergency meeting is expected to consider possible legal or administrative measures in response to the appointment. The issue has also triggered political debate in the state, with attention now focused on the decisions that emerge from the high-level meeting.
