Ludhiana: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) team visited government schools in Punjab for the first time on Thursday, with spokesperson Saurav Das and his team inspecting three schools in Ludhiana.
The team reported finding no major shortcomings at two of the schools, described as among Ludhiana’s top institutions. However, it flagged hygiene and infrastructure concerns at a third school, particularly its toilets.
During the visit to Government Senior Secondary School, Jandyali, the team found toilets that were not adequately clean and raised concerns over hygiene. It also claimed there were insufficient toilets for girls, with some girls’ toilets reportedly lacking doors.
Das said an audit report covering the three schools had been submitted to Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. He also shared a video of the visits on social media.
Kejriwal responds
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal responded to Das’s social media post, thanking him for highlighting the shortcomings.
“Saurav, thank you for bringing our shortcomings to our attention. We will resolve them immediately,” Kejriwal said in his post.
The team also visited the School of Eminence in Sector 32, which it described as one of Punjab’s top schools. The school building was constructed during the Congress government, and students were shifted there from Indrapuri School around two years ago.
The third institution visited was Government Primary School, Jandyali, described in the report as one of Punjab’s oldest smart schools. Teacher Narinder Singh had developed it as a smart school around 12 years ago with support from corporate organisations and others. The model was subsequently used by the then Punjab government to promote the smart-school concept across the state.
Das further said that none of the three schools had dedicated cleaning staff, according to the team’s assessment.
