Tarn Taran: The husband of Shiromani Akali Dal-backed sarpanch Kulwinder Kaur was allegedly shot dead following a clash between two groups in Gaggobua village under Jhabal police station on Thursday night.
DSP City Sukhbir Singh said a dispute broke out between two groups in the village. During the altercation, Surinder Singh Sonu, who runs a jewellery shop at the Gaggobua village market, allegedly opened fire at Kulwinder Kaur’s husband, Navdeep Singh.
Navdeep Singh was being taken to hospital after the shooting when he died on the way.
Police said a case has been registered against three people — Surinder Singh alias Sonu Kanda, Nirmal Singh Nimma and Arshdeep Singh. The accused have been booked under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
Police teams have launched raids to arrest the accused. DSP Sukhbir Singh said Jhabal SHO Sub-Inspector Jugraj Singh had been directed to ensure their immediate arrest.
The DSP also said there was no political or gangster involvement in the incident.
